Adding publications to my profile

ResearchGate makes it easy for you to add all types of research and publications to your profile. To start adding your work select Add your publications and you’ll be presented with 3 options: Journal articles, Conference papers, and All other research. We recommend you start with journal articles as most of them will already be listed in our database. Take a look at the following three questions for more information about each of these options.

Once you’ve added your publications and research to your profile, they’ll be listed under your Contributions tab.

How do I add my journal articles to my profile?

We group all of the publications in our database by author using a name-matching algorithm. These groups of publications are called author profiles and help streamline the authorship confirmation process, meaning you only need to confirm authorship of one of your publications to add a whole group of them to your profile.

To add your journal articles to your profile:

1.      Go to your profile

2.      Click Add your publications in the top right-hand corner

3.      Select Journal articles

4.      Select Author match to be shown any author profiles matching your name

5.      Confirm authorship of your research by clicking Yes next to anything you authored

6.      Click Save to add your publications to your profile.

Note: If you’re having trouble finding your published research you can also use the search tab.

To add your journal articles that aren’t already on ResearchGate you can use the Manual entry tool:

1.      Follow steps one to three above and move across to the Manual entry tab

2.      Enter the title of the journal article you want to add to your profile

3.      Upload a full-text version of your article (optional)

4.      Click Continue

5.      Enter applicable details such as the authors, journal name, and publication date

6.       Click Finish to add your article to your profile.

How do I add my conference papers, presentations, or posters to my profile?

Adding research you presented at a conference is a great way to gain exposure for the research that doesn’t get a great deal of attention after it’s been presented. We call this type of research a conference paper, but we encourage you to upload your posters and presentations as well.

To add research you presented at a conference to your profile:

1.      Go to your profile

2.      Click Add your publications in the top right-hand corner

3.      Select Conference papers in the box that appears

4.      Click Select file to find and upload your research (optional)

5.      Enter the title of your research and click Continue

6.      Enter details such as the authors and the conference name and date

7.      Click Finish to add your research to your profile.

Tip: You can generate a DOI for most of the research you add to your profile.

How it works:

  • Go to your profile, click add your publications and choose what kind of research you'd like to add.
  • Fill out the details about your research and choose whether you’d like to enter an existing DOI or generate a new DOI.

  • You’ll find the DOI on your publication’s page and we’ll also send you an email with the DOI for safekeeping.

How do I add other types of research to my profile?

All other research is a broad category that allows you to add research to your profile that you might not have published elsewhere. You can also create a free DOI for most of the research you add. Here are some examples of what other researchers have added: unpublished articles, working copies, theses, technical papers, datasets, raw data, negative results, patents, figures, software, technical papers, and media files.

To add other types of research to your profile:

1.      Go to your profile

2.      Click Add your publications in the top right-hand corner

3.      Select All other research in the box that appears

4.      Select the type of research you are adding

5.      Click Select file to find and upload your research (optional)

6.      Enter the title of your research and click Continue

7.      Enter any applicable details about your research

8.      Click Finish to add your research to your profile.

Tip: You can generate a DOI for most of the research you add to your profile.

What are supplementary resources?

Supplementary resources are all the research and data that went into a publication but didn’t end up in the final manuscript, such as raw and negative results, figures, or other data. In short, they’re anything that supports the publications listed in your ResearchGate profile. We call this type of resource a dataset, but we encourage you to upload anything you want.

How do I add supplementary resources to my publications?

To add supplementary resources to one of your publications:

1.      Go to your profile

2.      Click Add your publications in the top right-hand corner

3.      Select All other research in the box that appears

4.      Select Dataset as the type of research you are adding

5.      Attach a file and enter a title for your research

6.      Click Continue

7.      Enter additional details and select the publication that this research supports

8.      Click Finish.

Tip: You can generate a DOI for most of the research you add to your profile.

Can I add several publications to my profile at once?

You can add several publications to your profile simultaneously using our Reference manager tool. This lets you upload BibTeX, EndNote, or RIS files containing the details of a group of publications you authored. To do this:

1.      Go to your profile

2.      Click Add your publications in the top right-hand corner

3.      Select Journal articles from the options in the box that appears

4.      Click the Reference manager tab

5.       Drag and drop your file or click Select file to find and upload it.

Inviting my co-authors to join ResearchGate

One way to make sure that your publications gain maximum exposure among your peers is by inviting your co-authors to join you on ResearchGate when you add publications to your profile. This way, they too can create a profile, confirm authorship of their work, and share it with their own network. If you’d like your co-authors to join you, just make sure that the Invite my co-authors to ResearchGate box is checked when you’re adding publications, and where possible, an invitation will be sent to them. Invitations will only be sent if this box is checked; ResearchGate does not email your co-authors on your behalf without your knowledge or consent.

You can customize this feature at any time. To do this, go to your Invitation settings and uncheck the box at the top of the page that reads Invite my co-authors to ResearchGate.

We take personal data and anti-spam policies very seriously; our processes are compliant with European and U.S. regulations and are audited on a regular basis.
